Sometimes, it takes an outside influence to reveal other people’s potential.
I have been reflecting and writing about lessons I have learned parenting a son with Autism. When Rob came into our lives, he pushed me (gently) to see that Isaac could accomplish so much more on his own than I had enabled him to do.
There is no guidebook that comes with a child who has special needs that says when to let go. And there is no guidebook in leadership telling you when a person is ready to be autonomous and take the lead.
Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to give you a nudge. And sometimes it just takes stepping back and realizing we need to give the opportunity for failure and learning.
What experience have you had that allowed you to step back as a leader and enable your team to grow through risk and learning?
